Enugu school where pupils got arrested for not doing their assignment gets shut down

Do you remember Early Dew Montessori Academy? Yes, the school in Enugu State, where pupils were arrested for not doing their assignments, well it has been closed down by the Enugu Stte Government.

Briefing newsmen on the recent development, the State's commissioner for education, Professor Uche Eze, said the school might be permanently shut down, for the pyschological abuse of
the arrested kids, unless the school's management  apologized in writing, to the parent's of the abused kids, the people of Enugu State and the State's Government.

The Commissioner also issued out stern warning to schools in the state, who issue out unethical discipline to kids under their care, to stop or face sanction.

Reacting to the suspension, the school's proprietress, Mrs Ify Okonkwo, said she meant no harm in what she did, as she thought she was discouraging the pupils from being lazy. She also disclosed the stunt was pulled with the support of parents in the whatsapp group she created for the school.

“In my mind, I thought I was doing it to bring the children up in a way that they will be attached to their studies. No child was manhandled neither did they point a gun at any of the children.

I was the person that took the pictures and posted them on Whatsapp, with the caption ‘Some children were arrested today for not doing their homework, for not reading their books, for not behaving well, but they promised to change’.

I didn’t mean any harm; I meant well for the kids. If not, I wouldn’t have made it public – it would have been between me and the teachers" she said.
